You may or may not know that there are a lot of common things about dating that men simply do not know. Here are some dating tips for men in that category:

Contrary to popular belief, chivalry is not dead. Little things like opening doors for your date, being affectionate (but not handsy) and allowing her to order first will score you big points.
Don't tell a girl you're not going to call if you don't intend to. Period. If you don't want to go out with her again, say something like, "Thanks! I had a nice time," or "Thanks! It was great meeting you."
Don't call a girlfriend your "old lady." In fact, don't call any female that. Ever.
Compliment her, but be genuine.
Pay for the date. (This goes back to the first bullet point.) Every once in awhile, she might offer to after you've been dating awhile, but until then, assume that you should pay.

You're probably thinking that the Women's Rights movement in the 60s and 70s made some of those rules obsolete, but most of those women probably aren't dating anymore. In fact, most women in their 20s and 30s were babies then (if they were even born yet). They had nothing to do with the Women's Movement. They just want to be treated with respect.
