Long Distance Relationship

Have you ever had a long distance relationship?
For some a long distance relationship is perfect. We have all met couples who spend more time apart than together and seem to be as happy as Larry. Some couples fight when they spend long periods of time together and like the idea of living in different cities or even countries.

Others meanwhile would hate to be separated from their loved one and simply wouldn't be able to tolerate a long distance relationship.

What are the pros and cons of a long distance relationship?
The pros:

You can enjoy some freedom! If you lead a busy life, are independent or simply like your own company and freedom then a long distance relationship could work well for you.
You can work long hours! If you are trying to get a promotion or are simply a workaholic, you won't have to worry about the wrath of your partner waiting for you at home.
You can hang out with friends and family as much as you want. Maybe you are the type of person that likes to hang out with your pals without having to concern yourself with your other half.
You can be unfaithful and may not get found out as easily. We certainly don't encourage infidelity, but if that is your game this could be a pro. Or maybe you and your partner have an 'open' relationship and have agreed that you can both see other people.
Time apart may bring you closer together and make you appreciate each other more.

The cons:

A long distance relationship has to be pretty close and strong to survive periods of separation. If your relationship is rocky or new, your relationship may not stand the test of time.
You will miss each other!
You may drift apart. When a long distance relationship is prolonged you may drift apart and meet other people or lose feelings for one another.
If trust is lacking in your relationship then the worry of infidelity may drive you apart or be a bone of contention and damage your relationship.

Don't give up before you have started!
Sometimes we are thrust into a long distance relationship which is out of our control. We may not want it but you or your loved one may be forced to spend time apart. You should be open to giving it a go. Lots of long distance relationships do stand the test of time and develop into stronger relationships in the long run.
