Singles

Singles and the scene
Once upon a time we all stayed put in the same town we grew up in, our parents gave their opinions about who would suit us best, and you knew almost everyone in your area. But those days are long gone for many of us. Now many of us live far from the towns we grew up in and are surrounded by complete strangers when not at work. Why is the pool of singles growing every year? The main reason for this is that society has changed. We are no longer expected to do what our parents and their parents before them did.

Kids these days
There are a lot of things that contributed to the growing number of singles. This and the last generation made different choices than their own parents had. More people now pursue their own goals before thinking about getting married. Singles today are satisfied with only dating without the strong commitments that were expected in years past. Most will attend college before tying he proverbial knot and make some good headway in their chosen careers before being sidetracked by marriage and a family. This leaves many singles who have become accustomed to being by themselves, doing things by themselves, and looking out for their own interests. It can be more difficult to change your ways enough to allow another person in after having been alone for some time. This makes it harder to find an acceptable mate as we might not be as flexible as we once were.

And let's face it, marriage and a family are very expensive endeavors. Many singles would prefer to have some funds tucked away before they have to start providing for other dependents. So a lot of people will work for a few years until they feel more financially capable of making a nice, stable home for a family.

American singles are extremely lucky - and extremely timid. We're always afraid to make the first move - even when movement alone is all that necessary to meet all the American singles you can handle.
